Deans Message

I am very honoured to be serving as the Dean for the Institute of Public Health and Management at CIU. As we begin a new wave of facilitating teaching, learning and research in IPHM, our Mission is very clear. “ To provide quality training for health professionals, especially at managerial level, so as to improve health care delivery and practice”.

Our 'low-hanging' fruits include our students, alumni, faculty, staff and importantly the communities that partner with us in providing solutions to the various health needs surrounding us.

Our teaching faculty members are dedicated to aggressively pursuing innovative, multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary research to address the complex and ever evolving health issues, including the elimination of health disparities and the improvement of health literacy across various segments of our population. IPHM prepares quality public health officers, specialists and researchers who go on to serve throughout the country, region, continent and the world. They make some of the most critical and positive contributions to individual and population health. Through teaching, learning, research, and community engagement experiences you will find numerous opportunities to grow both as a person and as a professional.

Our research output has addressed some of the most pressing public health issues, including conducting research on communicable and non-communicable diseases, emerging and re-emerging epidemics, as well as evaluation of health care systems and programs including regulatory issues. It, therefore, presents an opportunity for young researchers and professionals to get hands-on experience and exploit their full potential to develop a career in public health practice and research.

IPHM also has an active well laid out community engagement program ranging from conducting community health diagnosis, visiting a refugee or a displaced people's camp, participating in outreaches, internships, volunteer work to being attached and working with Non-governmental (charity) organisations. The teaching and learning outcomes are practical knowledge, skills and competencies developed so as to response to the real situation after graduation.

I encourage you to explore our website to learn about the opportunities that await you at IPHM as Public Health Officers, Specialists or Researchers. We hope you consider joining us as a student, alumnus, benefactor, faculty, or staff member in our efforts to improve the health and well-being of the populations.

I look forward to working collaboratively with all of you.
